Happy Mompreneur Day!!!

It's Mother's Day again!  This is the time of the year when the world gets to thank you for all of your hard work.  They finally acknowledge the "S" on your chest, make you breakfast, and buy you chocolate. What a great day!

Today I want to give an extra shout out to the mompreneurs, the female business owner who is actively balancing the role of mom and entrepreneur.

As the owner and senior event manager at Simply Elegant Events, I plan major events both small and large.  This is something that comes so easy to me, with my 20 years' experience there is nothing that I can't do. However, now that I'm a mom- why does it seem so hard to manage two little ones? The truth is being a mom and a business owner is hard work! The struggle is real!

25 months ago I had my first child, then 20 months later came the second one. My children are now 25 months and 5 months old. They don't nap at the same time, are not calm at the same time, don't want to eat at the same time.. But when they cry- it's at the same time and why does it always seems that they poop at the same time; at the most inconvenient time!

My 25 month old is almost potty trained, so the other day when she yelled "Mommy, Potty!" while I was on the phone with a client, I congratulated her like usual. However when I walked into the bathroom, to my surprise, I did not see anything in the potty. I asked her where did she potty, she pointed to the den. To my dismay, I walked in and saw it. There " it" was on my den floor. Thank God for hardwood floors. As I'm on the phone discussing major plans for an event, I was on my hands and knees scrubbing.

Then I hear the 5 month old crying, she no longer wants to be in her bouncer and is ready to be fed.  So I make her some peas and she is eating them so well until she wants to grab the spoon herself and now there are green peas all over the couch, her, the wall, and me. I go to get the baby cleaned up. When I return the 25 month old  is coloring on my notes for the event. "Pretty"- she said.. all I could say was yes!

That weekend I had four events- two weddings, a graduation and a birthday party. By the time I finished on Sunday I was totally exhausted.  I was just happy to be home. Looking out the window -waiting my arrival was my 25 month old…she looked bigger than she was just a day ago… When did this happen? How long had I been gone? Her pants were flooding – how did that happen. When I walked in she mumbled something to me ( I could only make out some of the words) She wanted me to play ABCMouse with her on her tablet.  So we did that, we read a story and then it was time for bed.

That night when the girls were sleep, I looked at them and couldn't believe how big they were getting. I remember bringing each one of them home.. No matter how bad my day, when I see them it seems to make it all better. I wouldn't change anything about my life.. I own my business and I will leave this legacy to them.. I wouldn't even be able to celebrate this day if they were not here.

Happy Mothers Day
